Medals at Welsh Youth Championships
Russell Swords took a massive 12 medals at the recent Welsh Youth Foil Championships. The entry this year was massive and the standard truly exceptional. This was particularly daunting for the RS fencers, for the majority of whom this was their first ever competition. However, they all excelled themselves, putting in superb performances to ensure that the club was not only the largest in the event (with over 20 competitors), but also the most successful - taking twice as many medals as their nearest competitor.

Can I take this opportunity to say how exceptionally proud I was of all our competitors, not only for the excellent fencing, but also for the brilliant level of behaviour and sportsmanship that they all demonstrated.
The medallists from Russell Swords were:
-
Molly Baker - Gold U10 Girls
-
Jenny Rich - Silver U10 Girls
-
Kai Prince - Bronze U10 Boys
-
Joseph Martin - Bronze U12 Boys
-
Ethan Walters - Bronze U12 Boys
-
Emry Williams - Bronze U14 Boys
-
Peter Idziaszczyk - Bronze U14 Boys
-
Ruth Lankham - Silver U12 Girls
-
Elinor Robinson - Silver U16 Girls
-
Iolo Westacott - Silver U18 Boys
-

A special mention should also go to the following fencers who, although they missed medals (often extremely narrowly), fenced exceptionally well and should be extremely pleased with their performance:
Rhys Williams, Matthew Phelps, Celyn Lewis, Jourdain and Kinsey McIlquham, Iwan Griffiths, Hywel Kane, Hannah Bevan, David Williams and Gareth Streeter.
