Russell Swords Dominates BYC Qualifiers
On the 27th of February RS students attended the British Youth Championships Welsh Qualifier in the WIS in Cardiff. Once again, Russell Swords dominated the medal table, gaining twice as many medals as the next most successful club! The day saw some truely superb perfromances:

Jenny Rich came 3rd in the U12 Girls, qualifing to represent Wales in the under 12's despite being the youngest comeptitor at the event!
Molly Baker took her second gold of the season, this time in the under 12's - All the more impressive as Molly is still only 10.
Iolo Westacott also performed well, beating clubmate Hugo Vine to take gold in the U18 boys.
Celyn Lewis fought through the extremely tough U12 boys catcgory to take bronze.
Medals also went to:
- Hugo Vine - Silver U18 Boys
- Gareth Streeter - Bronze U18 Boys
- Elinor Robinson - Silver U16 Girls
- Taro Wirth - Silver U16 Boys
- Hannah Bevan - Bronze U14 Girls

Russell Swords also saw success in the Sabre and Epee Qualifier the next day.
Alex Morgan who had intended to do the foil, but accidently turn up on the wrong day, decided to try his luck at Epee. Despite it being the first time Alex had held the weapon he did incredibly well - winning 4 of his 6 pool fights and finishing 2nd overall!
Elinor Robinson also did very well, narrowly missing gold in a fight with the more experienced Martha James.
Finally, Joseph Brady put in some great performances in the pool only to be taken down by RS regular Ethan Ridsdale in the DE. Joe still took home bronze and a place at the BYC finals!
Congratulations to all our fencers - including Ethan Walters, Kane Wheadon, Matthew Phelps, Hywel Kane and Peter Idziaszczyk who fought well but didn't quite make the medal board this time.
